Production Dryers

Even, Efficient Seed Corn Production Drying

Drying wet seed corn can be tricky. Excess heat, uneven airflow, temperature swings, and manual handling can all damage your seed. O’Mara Bulk Seed Corn Production Dryers deliver uniform airflow, gentle drying, and automated control, protecting seed quality while reducing energy use and labor.

Designed and manufactured in-house, our systems combine proven airflow engineering with advanced automation so you can focus on harvest success, not equipment maintenance.

Our proprietary Single-Point Reversing Air Door system (manual or automated) safely reverses airflow even while fans are running, improving moisture uniformity, reducing fuel consumption, and protecting seed integrity.

What Are Production Dryers?

A production dryer is a high-capacity system that removes moisture from freshly harvested seed ears (typically down to 10–13%) to preserve viability and genetic potential.

Unlike standard grain dryers, these systems use controlled heat, deep-bed airflow, and staged drying to protect the seed embryo while accelerating moisture removal.

How Bulk Seed Corn Dryers Work

Airflow Control

Heated air, powered by natural gas, propane, or fuel oil, is forced through the seed using industrial fans, delivering consistent temperature and velocity across the entire bin.

Moisture Removal

Water migrates from inside the kernels into the airflow and is exhausted efficiently, minimizing shrinkage, cracking, and spoilage.

Drying Stages

  1. Loading: Corn is loaded into the bin or tower.
  2. Drying: Low, controlled heat protects the seed.
  3. Cooling: Gradual cooling prevents moisture condensation and cracking.
  4. Discharge: Dried seed is removed safely for storage or processing.

Advanced Airflow & Dryer Design

O’Mara dryers incorporate advanced airflow engineering to improve consistency and efficiency:

  • Balanced air plenums and blending chambers deliver uniform air distribution throughout the bin
  • Independent exhaust ports eliminate unwanted recirculation of moist air
  • Extended air travel paths improve moisture removal efficiency
  • One-step airflow reversal simplifies operation from ground level

These design features reduce common air handling issues and ensure more consistent drying across every load.

Single-Pass & Double-Pass Drying Options

Single-Pass Reversing Dryers

Airflow is reversed mid-cycle to reduce moisture variation across the grain bin and improve energy efficiency.

Double-Pass Dryers

Heated air passes through drier seed first, then through wetter seed before exhausting. This allows the air to absorb more moisture before exiting, improving drying efficiency and reducing fuel costs.

Benefits include:

  • Higher energy efficiency
  • Reduced seed stress through natural evaporative cooling
  • Greater control over drying conditions

Automation & Control

Modern systems offer advanced automation for precision and labor savings:

  • Automated airflow reversal
  • Individual bin temperature control
  • Modular fan and burner units
  • Computerized data monitoring (optional)
  • Automated tripper fill systems

Fully automated systems can manage filling, drying, and airflow reversal, giving operators complete control over quality and performance.

Key Benefits

  1. Preserve Seed Quality – Gentle, uniform drying protects germination
  2. Maximize Efficiency – Better air usage reduces energy waste
  3. Lower Field Risk – Harvest earlier, avoid mold and pests
  4. Improve Storage Life – Consistent moisture for long-term storage
  5. Safer Operation – Automation reduces labor and exposure risks
